RESIDENTS in Wraxall are pressing council chiefs to find the source of a leak which is causing water to run across the main road in the village.
Water has been running from the side of the lay by on the B3130 Bristol Road for several months, causing large puddles to form in the road by the entrance to the Wraxall Manor Hotel.
Despite investigations by residents to identify where the water is coming from, the source remains a mystery.
And concerns are mounting that if the water is allowed to continue to run across the road, it could damage the surface.
Potholes have already started to appear on the road and residents fear that more could appear if nothing is done.
Wraxall Village Association and former parish councillor Tony Tavener has been pressing for North Somerset Council to investigate where the water is coming from for several months.
Mr Tavener, who is retired, said: "I rang North Somerset Council several months ago to complain about this water and asked for investigations to be made as to where it was coming from.
"I have yet to receive a response and the water is still running and the source has yet to be identified.
"We do not know if it is running off the fields or coming from under the ground or from a drain.
"It is flowing down from the layby and across the road by the entrance to the hotel and has been doing so constantly for a number of months.
"It is starting to affect the surface of the road and the surface is starting to come off.
"The recent heavy rain has also not helped the situation and having all this surface water on the road could be a potential cause of accidents.
"There are already a number of potholes on this stretch and I am concerned that these will get worse if nothing is done."
Mr Tavener said that it was imperative that work to stop the flow of water was done before the weather became colder.
He added: "I complained back in November, concerned that if the water froze in cold weather it could cause accidents.
"It certainly needs to be dealt with before the weather turns cold again."
North Somerset Council said investigations are planned to identify the source of where the water is coming from.
Council spokesman Nick Yates said: "We are waiting for a jetter to clear out the drains which will then give us a much better idea of what the problem may be."
