Mangotsfield seal promotion with a battling display against Heath

AN under-strength Mangotsfield United Under-11s showed great desire to guarantee themselves promotion from Division B by beating Coalpit Heath 7-2.

They went ahead in the first minute when man-of-the-match Harry Haughton slotted home the first of his hat-trick of goals thanks to a clever pass from Isaac Staples.

Heath's keeper was in fine form and did well to keep the score to 1-0 at half-time, but he was unable to prevent Haughton netting his second with a well-taken individual effort soon after the interval.

Yet, against the run of play, Heath roared back to level up at 2-2 with two great strikes before hot-shot Haughton put Field in front again with a fierce strike to see his side to a slender 3-2 win.

The second game was all about Mangotsfield as two own goals, and efforts from star man Edward Baker and Corey Jackson, saw them breeze to a 4-0 victory, helped by solid defensive displays by keeper Joshua Elgood, Lewis Leslie and Harry Fitzsimons.

Whitchurch Sports Under-10s hit the road for their final two games of the season and won twice in the space of four days. Those impressive back-to-back victories completed a successful first season in Division A for spirited Sports.

First came a 5-1 victory against a determined Bitton team, four of those goals coming via an emphatic 4-0 first-game win. A determined run saw Harvey Tilley evade two challenges before chipping the keeper for Sports' opener.

After the break Pierce Hartnett supplied the through pass for Tilley to race clear and place the ball past the onrushing keeper and into the corner of the net for 2-0, before Tilley completed his hat-trick, sliding in determinedly to score. Hartnett converted the impressive Ashton Rowe's cross to complete the win.

The second game saw Harvey Clarke finish an excellent move to level up a match in which Sports' stand-in keeper Cyprian Kucaj performed well in a 1-1 draw.

In-form Whitchurch then travelled to third-place Bristol Rovers JSC and came away with a 3-2 victory. Thomas Bealing headed Whitchurch in front, only for Rovers to hit back well to lead 2-1.

However, a powerful close-range shot beat the fantastic Rovers keeper to level up the scores, and in the final minute midfield maestro Kian Blake intelligently set Hartnett up to complete a dramatic win.

The second game ended up goalless as both defences remained steadfast.

Travelling Brislington Under-10s eventually found their shooting boots after being held to a 1-1 opening-game draw by a determined Almondsbury Juniors in Division B.

A goalless first half of the first match was largely down to the exploits of the in-form Almonds goalkeeper, before Albin Stephens finally managed to break through his staunch resistance to open the second-half scoring for Bris.

Despite strong performances from defender Lewis Ceraj and lively star man Ashley King for the visitors, Almondsbury fired home an equaliser to give them a lift heading into the second game.

However, there was only to be one winner after that as Brislington swept to a 6-0 victory, man-of-the-match Jay Cooper and George Harper each netting before the break and Harper again, Harry Keen and Cooper, with two more to complete his hat-trick, inflicting the damage.

Mitchell Taylor's fine corner kick contributed to Cooper's second goal in a 7-1 aggregate success.
