Bristol is final port of call after incredible journey of Nowhere Island

It's been an incredible journey for such a small island. A floating sculpture, towed from the Arctic oceans, transformed into a nation and charged with a remit to change peoples perceptions.
Nowhere Island was created by artist Alex Hartley out of the debris left by a melting glacier in the Arctic. Towed south it has sailed the high seas around the South West coast line during the Olympics and Para-Olympics as part of the Cultural Olympiad. 
Docking at 8 harbours along the coastline it has signed up more than 20,000 people as citizens and created it's own constitution based on their wishes.
But every journey must eventually come to an end, and as Nowhere Island passed under the Suspension bridge and into Bristol, it's final port of call, it was a time to reflect on it's epic adventure.
Nowhere Island was conceived by Claire Doherty who runs Situations, a Bristol based arts organisation. In this video she, and artist Alex Hartley, explain to This is Bristol what the journey has meant to it's citizens.

Nowhere island is moored in Cumberland Basin until Sunday 9th September. The island will then be broken down and distributed amongst it's citizens. For more information go to http://nowhereisland.org
