BALLOONS are popping up near Bristol's busiest locations to remind people about the impending start of the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta.
The tethered balloons, which are being raised between 7am and 9am to catch the attention of commuters going to work around Bristol and Bath until Friday, are the key to a competition with flights in a hot air balloon as the prize.
The tethered balloons include one bearing the name of event sponsors Jones Lang LaSalle and are also being sent up as far away as Exeter.
The locations of the balloons are a closely guarded secret but anyone who spots them will have a chance to enter a competition to fly in a mass ascent at this year's Fiesta or in a balloon flight in the 12 months following the event.
The Heart Angels from city radio station Heart Bristol will be at each of the Bristol locations and offer passers-by a breakfast pack from Subway.
They will take a photo of the balloon which will hint at its location and upload it onto their Facebook page.
Visitors to the site will then be able to link through to www.heart.co.uk to guess the location and enter a competition to win a balloon flight at the Fiesta.
Chris Hathaway, chairman of the 2012 organising committee, said: "The Fiesta attracts visitors from right across the South West so this year we're taking balloons out to the region in the lead-up to the event.
"Morning balloon flights are often missed by commuters as they happen so early but the Tether Roadshow will be able to capture the attention of the public on their way to work."
Jeremy Richards, head of Bristol office at Jones Lang LaSalle added: "The title sponsorship of this year's Bristol Balloon Fiesta provides an ideal opportunity to enhance our brand in the South West.
"By taking the Tether Roadshow out to cities where we have our regional offices, we are giving local people a chance to win a hot air balloon ride."
Jones Lang LaSalle is the title sponsor of the 2012 Bristol International Balloon Fiesta. The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta is one of the UKs top tourism events, bringing over half a million visitors to Bristol every year. This year the Fiesta will run from Thursday of next week until the following Sunday.
Visitors are being reminded that the Clifton Suspension Bridge will be closed to all pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles for two evenings during the Fiesta.
The reminder about the closures from 6pm on Thursday, August 9 and Saturday, August 11, until 2am the following mornings has come from bridge master David Anderson.
